ALIA and ANDS: Ready and Prepared for Research Data at your Library - NSW

ALIA and ANDS: Ready and Prepared for Research Data at your Library - NSW

Off and racing: Research data for you and your library

On 4 February 2016 over 45 NSW ALIA members and guest Librarians gathered at the amazing Arup meeting room in Kent Street to start our journey towards incorporating research data into our toolkits of services and expertise.

This session will go broader and deeper into opportunities for Librarians around research data.

Don’t worry if you couldn’t attend the February session: this session is suitable for those who are completely new to the idea of research data in their Libraries as well as those who attended the February Sydney session.

Research data is not just for academic or research libraries - it's for every library, including Public, School, Corporate, Government, Medical. This session will have lots of time for questions and sharing ideas.

In this session we will scan some research data basics, and then look at how you can use some simple ideas (like the Data Management Lifecycle) as keys to implementing effective support services for clients. We will then explore some answers and strategies for this question: “If data is the next big thing for Libraries, how can I get the skills and confidence I need to be as comfortable with data as I am with other formats?” And lastly, we’ll have a bit of fun checking out the personal side of citizen science opportunities.

If you are participating in the ALIA PD Scheme, you may claim 2 points for this activity in the Informal Learning category.

Anyone is welcome to attend!

N.B. To access the course at member prices please ensure you are logged in first. Institutions registering staff under the institution's ALIA membership should ensure those staff are listed under their membership before registering, or member pricing will not be applied to those individuals.(Go to My Profile/My Memberships/Members tab)
