ALIA PD Scheme
About the ALIA Scheme
The ALIA PD Scheme supports you as an autonomous professional Associate or Library Technician member to identify the ongoing learning that suits your own particular professional practice and gain ALIA Certified Professional membership.
How it works
The scheme uses a simple points system:
30 PD points minimum per PD year
120 PD points over each triennium (3 years)
The ALIA PD Scheme Summary of Activity Types provides guidelines for allocating PD points.
You choose how you record your PD.
- ALIA’s MyPD Tracking Tool is an online tool for recording your PD should you wish to use it, or
- Track your PD your own way using eportfolios, Excel, your own workplace recording system or use our PD Activity Record sheets.
Add a Specialisation and choose your ongoing learning based on a specific set of core competencies.
ALIA randomly selects 10% of ALIA PD Scheme members annually to conduct an audit of ongoing learning to ensure you are keeping your records up-to-date and are maintaining compliance with the Scheme. It's a good habit to record and reflect on your activities as you go — it's much easier than having to do it all at once. And of course this approach achieves the main aim of PD a lot more effectively too, that is, purposeful learning and following, improved ongoing professional practice.
After one year's compliance, you are eligible to upgrade to ALIA Certified Professional membership, and use the special post nominals AALIA (CP) or ALIATec (CP). After three years' compliance you can apply for a certificate and listing on the ALIA website.
